Mitsubishi Heavy Industries MET hybrid supercharger will use Calnetix technology

It is reported that the MET hybrid supercharger produced by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Marine Machinery and Engine Co., Ltd. (MHI-MME) will use the motor power generation system and power electronics developed by Calnetix Technology.
At the 26th Japan Energy Conservation Machinery Competition held in January 2016, the Japan Machinery Foundation awarded its President's Award to the new technology supercharger of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Marine Machinery and Engine Co., Ltd.
Calnetix Technologies' patented Magnaforce high-speed permanent magnet motor has been installed in the supercharger. By diverting the exhaust of a small portion of the engine, typically dedicated to turbochargers, the new MET hybrid supercharger provides all the auxiliary power needed for the ship, thus eliminating the need to operate a separate unit. The need for diesel generators. When the ship is cruising, this integrated Magnaforce generator, driven by a supercharger rotor shaft, acts as an engine, producing up to 5% of the mainframe output power.
The compact MET hybrid supercharger is designed to be easily retrofitted in the ship's nacelle without major modifications to the engine.
It is understood that Magnaforce motor generator technology will also be used in the Hydrocurrent heat recovery system jointly developed by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Marine Machinery and Engine Co., Ltd. and Calnetix.
The Hydrocurrent heat recovery system uses organic Rankine cycle (ORC) heat recovery and patented power conversion technology to derive useful electricity from the heat generated by the engine's water jacket cooling water.
Last year, the Hydrocurrent heat recovery system was certified by Lloyd's Register and the Japan Classification Society, and the first Hydrocurrent heat recovery system will be installed on a large container ship next month to begin ship testing.
