2008年5月12日四川汶川大地震发生后,徐工集团领导和员工心系灾区,积极行动,先后投入18台汽车起重机、5台压路机、4台平地机、8辆服务车、2辆指挥车、7辆平板运输车,共计44台(辆)、总价值2792万元的设备,共出动62名赴川抗震救灾救援队队员,成为国内第一支抵达现场的企业救援力量。18日晚,徐工集团在中央电视台“爱的奉献——抗震救灾大型募捐晚会”上当场宣布向地震灾区捐款1372万元,其中企业捐款1000万元,1.3万名职工个人捐款372万元。此外,徐工2200多名党员以特殊党费的形式捐款43.49万元。5月25至今,徐工又紧急派出由5台压路机、4台平地机和12名员工组成的第五批救援队奔赴四川绵竹,及时投入到当地3万平方米灾民临时板房的地面平整、铺设和搭建工作,有力地支援了当地灾后重建工作。

2002年以来,徐工为各类社会公益事业捐款已达4000多万元,为灾区捐衣、物达14万余件。为表彰徐工对社会慈善事业的突出贡献,徐工被授予“徐州市慈善事业特殊贡献奖”和“江苏省慈善之星”称号,受到了社会各界的高度评价。2008年,徐工集团荣获发“中华慈善奖”这一国家在慈善公益领域的最高政府奖,并受到胡锦涛总书记的接见。
