Standby at O’Hare Airport, 1-7-20

Here's a message from Dan McInerney:

United Airlines Flight 772 (B772, N782UA, ORD to NRT) on January 7, 2020.
This United 772 was en route to northern Wisconsin when it had to turn back due to engine trouble. The Chicago Fire Department quickly responded with a full ARFF (Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting) team and escorted the aircraft back to the terminal. As the plane turned around, you can clearly see that Engine #2 had been shut down, as there was no exhaust visible. The photos show just a small portion of the ARFF response — the Chicago Fire Department is known for having the largest number of trained personnel and ARFF vehicles at any airport in the world.

The event was quite dramatic, especially considering how quickly the emergency response teams reacted. It's always impressive to see how well-prepared airports are for such situations. The images captured by Dan McInerney give a glimpse into the scale of the operation, and it's clear that O'Hare International Airport takes safety very seriously. These photos not only document an unusual incident but also highlight the professionalism of the firefighters who work there every day.
