Crash with extrication in Long Grove, IL 9-2-16

On Friday morning, September 2nd, 2016, at approximately 1:30 AM, Long Grove firefighters responded to a serious vehicle collision at the intersection of Lake-Cook Road and IL Route 53. The incident involved a car that had crashed into the rear of a tractor-trailer and became wedged underneath it, trapping the driver inside. Local fire departments from Buffalo Grove, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, and Palatine also arrived on scene to assist with the complex extrication. Firefighters used three sets of hydraulic tools to free the victim, a process that took nearly an hour. During the operation, emergency crews considered requesting a helicopter for transport, but that was ultimately canceled when the patient was safely taken to Lutheran General Hospital by Palatine Ambulance 82. The crash left the car severely damaged and jammed beneath the truck, requiring the use of cribbing and air bags to lift the semi-trailer and provide access to the trapped individual. Several photos captured the intensity of the scene, showing the wreckage and the efforts of first responders working together under challenging conditions. More details are expected as the investigation continues.
