Firefighters from the South Elgin Fire Protection District recently rescued a dog that had escaped through a window and climbed onto the roof of a home. The incident occurred when the homeowners, who live in a duplex, were away from the house. According to the firefighters, the dog managed to break through a window screen on the second floor and then made its way over to the neighbor’s side of the roof.
The steep slope of the roof prevented the dog from returning to the window it had come from. Fortunately, the firefighters arrived quickly and used a ladder to safely bring the animal down. The dog appeared to be unharmed after the rescue, and local authorities are now advising pet owners to ensure their windows are properly secured to prevent similar incidents.
