On December 20th, the China National Heavy Duty Truck Group Co., Ltd. and its Hong Kong subsidiary held their 2008 Business Conference in Jinan, marking a pivotal moment in the company's strategic direction. The event outlined key initiatives for Sinotruk in 2008, including enhancing product quality, boosting internationalization, achieving breakthroughs in scientific management and network expansion, and positioning China National Heavy Duty Truck as a top-tier, globally recognized heavy truck manufacturer.
At the conference, Ma Chun-Ji, Chairman of the Party Committee of China National Heavy Duty Truck Group, highlighted two landmark events from 2007 that significantly shaped the company’s development: the successful listing of the group on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, making it the first red-chip stock in China’s manufacturing sector, and surpassing 100,000 units in annual sales of heavy-duty vehicles, securing the top domestic position and placing it among the world’s top five heavy truck manufacturers.
Ma emphasized that these milestones have strengthened Sinotruk’s influence in China’s heavy truck industry and enhanced its role in promoting the broader manufacturing sector. He also noted the increased potential for collaboration with partners, driven by the company’s growing global presence and competitive edge.
In 2007, the company achieved remarkable progress, not only in business growth but also in qualitative development. From January to November, Sinotruk produced and sold 93,000 heavy-duty trucks, reflecting a year-on-year increase of 70.28%. The company focused on internal efficiency, energy conservation, and emission reduction, achieving significant improvements in resource utilization, with a 33% drop in industrial energy consumption per ten thousand yuan and a 31% decrease in water usage.
New product development also showed strong momentum, with engineering dump trucks maintaining top market share and special vehicles such as fire engines, cement mixers, and terminal tractors gaining widespread recognition. CNHTC’s heavy-duty engines saw notable R&D achievements, with nearly 175,000 trucks equipped with its engines sold over two years, including 20,000 exports. Improvements in axle assembly processes and the successful development of gearboxes further strengthened the company’s core competitiveness, while patent applications reached 866, showing continuous innovation.
Sinotruk’s marketing network expanded significantly, with 117 4S stores, over 900 refitted units, 700 service stations, and 15 accessory centers across the country. Internationally, the company made impressive strides, exporting more than 13,000 vehicles in 2007 and earning $400 million in foreign exchange—ranking first in the national heavy truck industry for three consecutive years.
Looking ahead, Ma Chun-Ji emphasized the company’s readiness to face challenges and leverage its strengths. Key advantages include a wide range of 2,600 models, high-quality products trusted by users, an expanding domestic network, and a solid international presence. With the successful red-chip listing, the company is now better positioned to enhance its global standing.
The 2008 target is to produce and sell 125,000 heavy-duty vehicles, aiming for 135,000 units and generating $600 million in foreign exchange. These goals align with the “Eleventh Five-Year Plan,†laying a solid foundation for becoming a globally competitive enterprise and aiming to enter the world’s top 500 companies.
By 2010, the company aims to achieve international standards in product quality and technological development, ensuring that its products are the most reliable and satisfactory for both domestic and international users. As 2008 approaches, Sinotruk is set for a transformative year, poised to create new achievements and strengthen its global footprint.
