Last week, the new Jianghuai Shuai Ling National III model officially launched in Guangzhou. This marks a significant step forward for the "Jing·Sheng·Province" strategy following the introduction of the "Secure Logistics System Solution" with the launch of Shuai Ling II last September. According to sources from Jianghuai, the price of the National III version exceeds 80,000 yuan, which is over 10,000 yuan higher than its National II counterpart. The company has clearly targeted Jiangling Kaiyun as its main competitor in the high-end light truck segment.
**Targeting Jiangling Kaiyun**
"The goal of the new Jianghuai Shuai Ling National III is undeniably to challenge Jiangling Kaiyun," said a representative from Jianghuai Automobile. With Guangdong accounting for roughly one-third of the national high-end light truck market, the region plays a crucial role in the industry. Both Jianghuai and JMC have deep roots in Guangdong. Last year, Shuai Ling sold around 6,000 units nationwide, while Jiangling Motors shipped over 11,000 units, showing a gap that the new model aims to close. During the product presentation, technical specifications were directly compared with those of Jiangling Kaiyun, highlighting the competitive stance.
Although there is no official definition of what constitutes a high-end light truck in China, it is generally accepted that vehicles priced above 70,000 yuan fall into this category. These trucks are known for superior craftsmanship, power, and environmental performance. Currently, major players in the domestic high-end light truck market include Qingling, Jiangling Kaiyun, Jianghuai Shuai Ling, and Foton Oushang.
According to Jiangling sources, the company expects to sell more than 4,000 light trucks domestically this month, with over 1,500 units exported. In the domestic market, Jiangling Kaiyun, JMC, and Shunda each hold about a third of the market share, while exports are dominated by Kaiyun.
Notably, while many manufacturers are raising prices, Jiangling reduced the price of its National III Shunda light truck by 7,000 yuan. Liu Jingxian, a brand manager at Jiangling Motors, explained, “Rising raw material costs will inevitably affect pricing, but how we manage these changes depends on our strategies.†He added, “For some, it’s a crisis; for others, it’s an opportunity.â€
**National III Price Hike Exceeds 10,000 Yuan**
Compared to the previous price of over 70,000 yuan, the National III Shuai Ling saw a price increase of around 10,000 yuan—equivalent to a 15% rise. “This isn’t just due to the upgrade from National II to National III,†said a spokesperson from JAC’s high-end light truck division. “The rising cost of materials like steel and labor also contributed significantly.†Other manufacturers, including Foton, have also raised their prices.
The new Shuai Ling National III comes in single-cab, double-cab, and crew-cab configurations to meet diverse market demands. Its core design philosophy focuses on safety, featuring a professional chassis developed over a decade, a reinforced frame structure, and a high-tech fuel tank designed to prevent static. It also includes 700R16 radial tires for better grip, a power steering system, and optional ABS. The 808 Haute Cab model even features car-like comfort.
According to Li Debin, chief quality engineer at Jianghuai Automobile, the Shuai Ling National III uses Bosch’s high-pressure common rail technology, offering high power, low emissions, and improved torque at low speeds. Additionally, the independently developed 4DA1 engine by Jianghuai boosts power by 20%, reduces emissions by 25%, and lowers fuel consumption by 8%. The engine block is stiffer, reducing vibration and noise, with a noise level of only 71 decibels—below the national standard.
Jianghuai also introduced a special after-sales guarantee: “Six years or 60,000 kilometers†for the Shuai Ling National III. With 80 4S centers, 400 service points, and 388 parts warehouses across the country, the company is well-equipped to support its customers.
