An environmental company in Singapore has partnered with the National University to create an innovative recycling system that effectively transforms food waste into nutrient-rich fertilizer. This groundbreaking technology is now protected by a patent and is currently in the trial phase.
The system consists of three main components: agitators, dehydrators, and microbiological mixers. It is designed to process both raw and cooked food waste, handling between 75 to 100 kilograms per day. A wide range of food scraps—such as fish bones, chicken heads, leftovers, and even burnt food—can be processed through this system. The entire transformation process takes approximately 5 to 8 hours.
Over the past three months, the system has successfully treated 8,000 kilograms of food waste, producing around 300 kilograms of high-quality fertilizer. This makes it an ideal solution for large hotels, restaurants, and commercial kitchens that generate significant amounts of organic waste.
Not only does the system help reduce landfill waste, but it also provides a sustainable way to recycle food scraps into valuable resources. As the trial continues, the company is looking to expand the system’s capacity and make it more accessible to other businesses across Singapore and beyond.
