On April 18th, at the Dalian Petrochemical Company's dock, China Ocean Shipping Co., Ltd. (COSCO) successfully loaded and unloaded two sets of heavy equipment using advanced ship-to-roller unloading technology. The operation involved 16-axis and 256-wheel self-propelled flatbeds, with a total weight of 672.156 tons. Additionally, the company handled 809.156 tons of hydrogenation reactors, setting a new record for the heaviest single-piece load transported via roller technology in Northeast China. According to sources, these four hydrogenation reactors are critical components for Dalian Petrochemical Company’s 20 million-ton crude oil processing project. This project is one of the 100 key technological transformation initiatives under the national revitalization plan for the old industrial base in Northeast China. Due to the heavy weight of the equipment and the specific location of the plant, traditional on-site loading and unloading equipment could not meet the requirements. COSCO Logistics therefore employed advanced rolling technology combined with high-tech self-propelled flatbeds to unload the cargo directly from the ship and transport it to the site without any additional lifting machinery. This innovative method not only ensured the safe and efficient handling of the massive equipment but also saved the company over 10 million yuan in costs. The ship docking and unloading technology used by COSCO Logistics is considered one of its core competencies in transporting large and heavy components. With multiple complex operational steps and high technical demands, this method is currently only mastered by a few major logistics companies in China. The successful implementation of this technology highlights COSCO’s strong capabilities in specialized logistics solutions and its commitment to innovation. It also reflects the growing importance of advanced transportation methods in supporting large-scale industrial projects across the country.
