On April 18th, at the Dalian Petrochemical Company's dock, China Ocean Shipping Co., Ltd. (COSCO) successfully loaded and unloaded two sets of heavy equipment using advanced ship-to-roller unloading technology. The operation involved 16-axis and 256-wheel self-propelled flatbeds, handling a total of 672.156 tons of cargo. Additionally, eight hydrogenation reactors weighing 809.156 tons were moved, setting a new record for the heaviest single-piece load handled on a single roller in Northeast China.
According to sources, these four hydrogenation reactors are crucial components for the 20 million-ton crude oil processing project at Dalian Petrochemical, which is part of one of the top 100 technological transformation initiatives under the national revitalization plan for the old industrial base in Northeast China. Due to the massive weight of the equipment and the specific location of the facility, traditional loading and unloading equipment at the site was insufficient to handle the task.
To overcome this challenge, COSCO Logistics combined high-tech self-propelled flatbeds with advanced rolling technology, enabling the unloading of the ship and transportation of the goods directly to the site without the need for additional lifting equipment. This innovative approach not only ensured the safe and efficient movement of the heavy cargo but also saved the company over 10 million yuan in costs.
The ship docking and unloading technology used in this operation is considered one of the core competencies of COSCO Logistics, known for its practicality and efficiency in handling large-scale industrial equipment. Given the complexity of the rolling and unloading process, which involves multiple technical steps, only a few major logistics companies in China have the capability to perform such operations.
