Fox River & Countryside FPD to appoint operations chief

Excerpts from the KaneCountyChronicle.com:

The Fox River and Countryside Fire/Rescue District Board is set to make an important decision at a special meeting on Tuesday, August 25. The board is expected to name a new chief of operations, a role that will focus specifically on the daily management and coordination of the district’s two fire stations.

Board President Jim Gaffney explained that this new position is not meant to replace Chief Greg Benson, who has led the district since its formation in 2011. Instead, the chief of operations will take charge of station-level operations and ensure that key responsibilities are handled efficiently. "We want to clearly define these roles so we can better serve our community," Gaffney said.

Gaffney did not reveal the identity of the new appointee ahead of the meeting but confirmed that the individual will be introduced during the event, which will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Station 3, located at 34W500 Carl Lee Road in St. Charles Township. The agenda includes the official appointment, introduction, and approval of the new chief's contract.

The chief of operations is scheduled to start on Wednesday, according to Gaffney. The district currently operates two stations—one in St. Charles Township and another along Route 64 in Campton Hills. Together, they serve approximately 25,000 residents across 38 square miles, covering areas such as Wayne, Campton Hills, and St. Charles Township.

Thanks, Dan
Excerpts from MySuburbanLife.com:

Greg Benson, the long-serving chief of the Fox River and Countryside Fire/Rescue District, is set to retire by the end of October, the district announced in a recent news release. Benson has been at the helm since the district was established in 2011, when it transitioned from being a paper district that relied on services from the city of St. Charles.

The district has now appointed Carl DeLeo as its new chief of operations. According to Board President Jim Gaffney, DeLeo will oversee all operational aspects, including station management and firefighter activities. Gaffney noted that the title was chosen with future flexibility in mind, allowing the district to potentially hire someone focused solely on administrative tasks down the line.

DeLeo brings over three decades of experience to the role. He previously served with the Lisle/Woodridge Fire Protection District, where he retired with the rank of captain. His background in fire service and leadership makes him a strong fit for the new position.
