This report comes from Tyler Tobolt:
The Crystal Lake Fire Department was called to a structure fire at 3217 Carrington Drive around 3:20 p.m. Engine 341 arrived on the scene and reported a very large fire upon arrival. Based on that information, Battalion Chief 330 of Crystal Lake requested a second alarm for Box Card #5-371. Shortly after, Engine 341 reached the location and found a two-story home fully engulfed in flames, prompting them to go into defensive mode. Within minutes, Battalion Chief 330 arrived and requested a Tender Box #5-371 for the fifth alarm. After securing the tanker box, he upgraded Engine Box #5-341 to the fifth alarm as well. Later, they also called for a MABAS Division 4 interdivisional box to bring in more crews. The main structure was a two-story home measuring 50 by 50 feet, which had spread to three other houses. In addition, several small brush fires were reported due to flying embers. The main house eventually collapsed. For more photos, visit: Facebook LinkThanks, Tyler

From the Northwest Herald:
CRYSTAL LAKE – Two firefighters are being treated for injuries after four homes caught fire this afternoon in a subdivision near Crystal Lake.
One house is still burning on the 3200 block of Carrington Drive. Firefighters are proceeding with caution due to a ruptured gas line, said Crystal Lake Battalion Chief Chris Olsen.
Firefighters have not yet extinguished the fire because of concerns over fumes from the gas line, Olsen said. Nicor has just arrived on the scene to shut off the gas, at which point firefighters will be able to completely put out the fire, Olsen added.
Olsen said he didn’t believe the gas line was the cause of the blaze and that the origin of the fire is still under investigation. Residents who were inside the homes when the fires started were able to escape without injury. The firefighters’ heat-related injuries are believed to be minor, and both were taken to Centegra Hospital-McHenry.
The affected homes include one that has already burned to the ground. The fire began at 3217 Carrington Drive sometime after 3:30 p.m. After the blaze started, wind blew embers across the street, causing neighboring houses to catch fire as well.
Several local fire departments and the Red Cross were called to assist at the scene. Terra Cotta Avenue and Valley View Road from Park Drive to Crystal Lake Avenue are currently closed due to the fire.
