Chicago Still & Box Alarm fire, 9-26-14

Here's an update from Eric Haak:

Engine 126 arrived at 7733 S. South Shore Drive just before 4 p.m. on Saturday afternoon and reported a fire on the third floor of a five-story apartment building. The fire was contained within 10 minutes, as it had spread to the unit directly above the original source. Residents on the fourth floor were in distress, and emergency calls were coming in from that level. Firefighters evacuated through the basement garage and also from a window on the third floor at the front of the building. A dog was rescued from the fire floor and given chest compressions and oxygen in an attempt to save its life, but the efforts were unsuccessful. One resident was taken to the hospital with minor smoke inhalation from a neighboring apartment. According to witnesses, there were no working smoke detectors on the floor where the fire started.
