February 27, 2023 — Flyability, a leading provider of indoor drone solutions, has announced a strategic partnership with Mirion Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: MIR), a global leader in radiation detection and monitoring technologies. This collaboration marks a significant step forward in enhancing safety and efficiency in nuclear environments.
Under the new agreement, Mirion’s RDS-32™ radiation survey meter will be integrated into Flyability’s Elios 3 indoor drone. This integration allows nuclear operators to collect precise radiation data remotely, keeping personnel out of hazardous areas during inspections. The real-time data gathered during flights can also be used for post-processing, offering valuable insights for long-term planning and decision-making.

To validate the integration, Flyability partnered with the Idaho Environmental Coalition (IEC), a contractor for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). The IEC successfully tested the system in a radioactive waste storage vault, collecting both LiDAR and radiation data. This mission provided critical information for future waste removal operations.

In addition to the IEC project, other missions with major nuclear power companies have demonstrated the effectiveness of the RDS-32 on the Elios 3. Notably, it was used to identify and characterize hot spots on the turbine deck of a multi-gigawatt facility, showcasing its versatility in complex environments.
