Arlington Heights Fire Department units responded to a reported basement fire on Monday evening at 106 S. Walnut Avenue. Tower 1 was the first to arrive and observed smoke coming from the basement. They deployed a hose line through the rear entrance, while a second line was prepared at the front door. Upon entering, firefighters discovered that the smoke was caused by pyrotechnics being used by the homeowner, which resulted in significant smoke but little actual fire.
Two additional units from the Arlington Heights Fire Department arrived on scene, along with a mutual aid engine from Rolling Meadows. The fire crew worked quickly to ventilate the area and ensure no hidden flames remained. Despite the initial concern, the situation was under control within a short time.
Larry Shapiro, a local photographer, arrived after the smoke had cleared and captured several images of the incident. He included photos of the newest addition to the department’s fleet—Engine 3, which had recently been put into service. The new unit features updated design elements compared to previous models, reflecting modern firefighting technology.
