More on the 3-alarm fatal fire in Bensenville, November 19th, 2017
This account comes from Steve Redick:
I took this job a week ago. It started as a fire alarm and quickly escalated to a full response before the fire department even arrived. There was one civilian fatality, likely from the fire-affected apartment. When I got there, the fire was already in the attic and spreading throughout the building. The water supply was an issue—apparently, the area has small mains, which made it difficult to maintain pressure. The smoke conditions were incredible—very fluid and constantly shifting. From a "fire enthusiast" perspective, two things stood out: the first use of the brand new Bensenville rearmount E-One quint and the debut of Chicago FD Squad 7’s Snorkel. Squad 7 is based at Rescue Station 3 at O'Hare Field and covers the northwest side of the city, as well as some MABAS alarms in the surrounding suburbs. Their rig is the only one of the four squad units that's lime green and doesn't often get used for elevated master streams. But this time, it was put to the test.I've attached a few of my favorite photos and I encourage you to check out the video and all the images here:Steve Redick
