A few days ago, it was reported by the Tianjin Port Authority that the port handled 22.267 million tons of iron ore in the first half of this year, marking a year-on-year increase of 13.7%. This growth highlights the continued expansion of Tianjin Port’s role as a key player in China's iron ore trade.
As one of the four core cargo types at Tianjin Port, iron ore has shown consistent and robust growth over recent years, playing a crucial role in boosting the overall throughput of the port. Today, Tianjin Port stands as a vital entry point for iron ore imports into China, serving not only local steel companies but also those across North China, Northwest China, and the Beijing-Tianjin region.
With China's rising demand for iron ore, Tianjin Port has adopted a strategy focused on market expansion through enhanced functional development. Currently, the port is actively building an iron ore distribution center and constructing the largest mining logistics base in northern China. This initiative integrates railway transportation, port loading and unloading, and production processes of steel enterprises and related industries, further driving the port’s development and efficiency.
Moreover, Tianjin Port has completed the construction of two 200,000-ton general bulk berths in the Nanjiang Port area, specifically designed for handling iron ore. These facilities have significantly boosted the port’s capacity to receive and manage large volumes of ore. Another 200,000-ton iron ore berth is currently under construction, signaling the port’s ongoing commitment to expanding its infrastructure and meeting growing market needs.
This strategic development not only strengthens Tianjin Port’s position in the global iron ore supply chain but also supports the long-term sustainability and competitiveness of the region’s industrial sector.
