On July 10, China First Automobile Group (FAW) held the completion of the FAW South Africa Kuha plant and the first locomotive off-line ceremony in Mandela Bay, Eastern Cape, South Africa. From a global perspective, the completion of FAW South Africa's Kuha plant is significant because it is by far the largest and most important investment by Chinese entities in South Africa. This cooperation fully demonstrates that Chinese industry is increasingly interested in exploring the potential of the African market in a global environment. The completion of FAW South Africa's Kuha factory also created a number of "firsts" in the local area of ​​FAW South Africa Vehicle Manufacturing Co., Ltd.
FAW South Africa's Kuha plant is fully invested by China First Automobile Group Corporation and China-Africa Development Fund (CAD-Fund). As a high-quality modern automobile production plant, its related infrastructure costs up to 60 million US dollars, as mentioned above. This is by far the largest investment by Chinese entities in South Africa.
FAW South Africa's Kuha plant has a capacity of 5,000 vehicles per year and is the first such large-scale production plant in the Eastern Cape. This can also reflect the tremendous contribution Chinese manufacturers make to the region.
At the same time, FAW South Africa Vehicle Manufacturing Co., Ltd. will become the first original equipment manufacturer integrating manufacturing and sales. Not only a wide range of products, but also medium-sized, heavy-duty and even heavy-duty commercial vehicles, the company plans to commission the body manufacturing facilities of the Kuha factory adjacent to the main plant in the future, as well as dump truck bodies, mixers and custom trailers. This has also made FAW South Africa Vehicle Manufacturing Co., Ltd. the first original equipment manufacturer based in South Africa and capable of providing body manufacturing facilities for other commercial vehicle manufacturers.
FAW South Africa Vehicle Manufacturing Co., Ltd. currently has 285 employees. It is planned that the plant capacity will be expanded in the next three years, and the expansion facilities in Johannesburg will be further debugged. By 2016, the number of employees will increase to more than 750. FAW South Africa Vehicle Manufacturing Co., Ltd. also plans to further expand its sales and service dealer network on the current basis. The company currently has 36 sales and service distributors in South Africa. Together with other multinational FAW subsidiaries in Africa, the company currently has 123 distributors and distributors in Africa.
