Siemens introduces improved diesel-electric propulsion system

Siemens Industry Inc has improved its Siship Blue Drive and introduced the new Blue Drive Plus C diesel-electric propulsion system in the United States.
It is reported that the system was developed by the Siemens Marine Solutions Global Center of Competence in Trondheim, Norway. Siemens claims that the system is currently unmatched in the market and can provide more competitive prices and higher energy efficiency solutions for offshore service vessels.
Doug Keith, President of Siemens Industry Drive Technology, said, "This energy efficient drive sets new standards for the industry and has many advantages in terms of environmental protection and maintenance cost. US shipowners and ship operators will start with Blue Drive Plus. C benefits."
The system is based on Siemens' leading diesel-electric technology, which saves energy consumption and reduces pollution emissions. The system significantly reduces total nitrogen oxides and greenhouse gas emissions compared to similar diesel or gas operated vessels. Compared to dual-fuel offshore vessels, greenhouse gas emissions can be reduced by up to 27%. Compared with other diesel-electric propulsion systems in the market, it can save up to 15% energy consumption.
