Yesterday (15th) morning, an open-pit coal-fired coal storage site at Wangjiayuan Village, Laopingwangwang Village, Datong City, spontaneously burned, and the fire spread fiercely and quickly, threatening the safety of neighboring factories and residential areas. At 8:11 that day, Datong Fire Special Service Squadron received an alarm and arrived at the scene. The coal piles were burning fiercely, and a large amount of smoke continued to emerge. The fired coal yard was separated by a wall of dense factory buildings and residential areas. If the fire was not controlled in time, The consequences will be disastrous.
According to the duty personnel on duty at the coal yard, the fire ignited from within the coal pile. When they discovered that the fire was difficult to control, they immediately called 119 and called the fire department for help. The firefighters quickly launched the fight and soon the open fire outside the coal pile was suppressed. However, due to the lack of water guns, the residual fire inside the coal seam was still spreading. The firefighters used a top-down method of irrigation, first using a shovel to remove the layers of coal, and then using a water gun to extinguish the water under the coal seam. In the end, after more than one hour of fighting, the fire was extinguished.
As a result of the time saved, more than 1,000 tons of coal were saved and the threat of neighboring factories and residents was lifted. After investigation, the accident was caused by the high temperature of the sun roasted during the day, and the bottom of the coal pile was not cooled enough, resulting in a higher temperature and igniting the underlying coal.
