This is from Larry Shapiro:
Firefighters were called to the scene of a serious head-on collision this afternoon on Old McHenry Road, north of Cuba Road in Long Grove. The first arriving units reported a car had crashed into a semi-truck, which was on fire, and the driver of the car was trapped inside. Emergency crews quickly managed to free the driver and transported them to Condell Hospital. The fire, which had spread into the passenger area of the car, was brought under control shortly after arrival.
The semi-truck was parked on the shoulder—on the northbound side of the southbound lane—while the driver was delivering building materials up a long driveway using a piggyback truck equipped with a forklift. He said he saw smoke as he approached the road but had no idea about the crash. He tried to put out the fire with a fire extinguisher, along with a Lake County Sheriff’s deputy, before firefighters arrived on the scene.
Here are some photos from the incident.
