At around 3:15 AM, Wheeling firefighters were called to 950 Lexington Court after reports of smoke coming from an apartment. Upon arrival, they discovered that the outdoor electric utility box was fully engulfed in flames. While waiting for ComEd to arrive and de-energize the system, the firefighters stretched their hoses and began evacuating the building to ensure the safety of the residents.
After about an hour on the scene, the power was successfully cut off, and the firefighters used water followed by foam to completely extinguish the remaining fire. Once the area was secure, power was rerouted, and residents were allowed to return to their apartments.
