This is from Larry Shapiro:
Firefighters responded to a head-on collision this afternoon on Old McHenry Road, north of Cuba Road in Long Grove. The first units on the scene reported a car had collided with a semi-truck, which was on fire and had the driver trapped inside. The driver was quickly rescued and taken to Condell Hospital. Fire officials said the flames had spread into the passenger area but were contained shortly after arrival.
The semi was parked on the shoulder, on the northbound side of the southbound lane, as the driver was delivering building materials up a long driveway using a piggyback truck equipped with a forklift. He told responders he saw smoke as he approached the road but hadn’t heard the crash. He tried to put out the fire with a fire extinguisher, as did a Lake County Sheriff’s deputy before the fire department arrived.
Here are some photos from the scene.

This was a close call, but everyone seems to have come through without serious injuries. A reminder to stay alert on the roads, especially when driving near construction or delivery zones.
