From Chief Drew Smith of the Prospect Heights Fire District:
Last night, on Tuesday, March 21, crews from Prospect Heights responded to a multi-vehicle accident requiring vehicle extrication on Elmhurst Road, north of Palatine Road. Upon arrival, four vehicles were involved in the crash. An SUV driver was trapped inside and required careful extraction. The scene was assisted by paramedics from Wheeling and Des Plaines, who helped transport two patients who were in stable condition.
The initial challenge was that part of the pickup truck’s front end was blocking the SUV’s driver-side door. After some technical work, the door was successfully removed, allowing for the safe extraction of the injured individual. While an attempt was made to remove the patient through the passenger side, it wasn’t feasible due to the center console and the deformation of the vehicle. As a result, the team opted to use the driver’s side door, which proved to be the most effective approach.
This operation showcased the skill, coordination, and dedication of our Prospect Heights firefighters. Their quick thinking and professionalism ensured a successful outcome for the patient and all involved. It's a great reminder of the critical role our emergency responders play in keeping our community safe.
