Chicago was called to a reported fire at a three-story building, with vacant upper floors and commercial spaces on the ground level. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy flames in the basement and immediately requested the high-expansion foam unit. Before deploying it, all units were ordered to evacuate the structure and shift to a defensive position.
A 2-11 alarm was initially called, followed by a 3-11 alarm as the situation escalated. Several tower ladders, including Squad 5A (Snorkel), the reserve Snorkel (661), and one of the turret wagons (676), were deployed. Multiple hand lines and multi-versals were also in use throughout the operation.
Several of our contributors were on the scene, and we expect multiple posts with photos and videos from the incident shortly. The fire appeared to be well-developed and challenging to contain, with crews working tirelessly under difficult conditions.
