Firefighters from the Prospect Heights Fire Department (FPD) and the Wheeling Fire Department recently conducted joint training exercises focused on aircraft rescue and firefighting at the Chicago Executive Airport. The drills aimed to enhance coordination, improve response times, and ensure that both departments are fully prepared for any emergency involving aircraft.
During the training, crews practiced a variety of critical scenarios, including responding to an aircraft fire, rescuing trapped individuals, and using specialized equipment designed for high-risk aviation incidents. The exercise featured several advanced fire apparatus, including the Oshkosh P-19 ARFF, the Rosenbauer America Timberwolf equipped with a bumper turret, and the E-One Titan 4x4 ARFF. These vehicles are essential in quickly containing and extinguishing fires on runways or near aircraft.
Photos captured during the event show firefighters entering a mock aircraft during a simulated fire, as well as teams using hand lines to battle flames near a plane. The training was led by experienced personnel who emphasized the importance of teamwork, communication, and precision in high-stress situations.
